Part Four: The Visa

The visa is really the key. You can't do anything without it. You need to focus on getting the stability of a longish-term visa for your life in Japan. Once that is done you can branch out and do the things you came to Japan to do.

If you are coming to Japan on JET or another teaching program you are all set and you can just relax. If you have a working holiday visa also you can just focus on the job hunt. Just make sure to hand in all your paperwork on time and in order.

If you are coming in on spec to look for work, read on.

Be careful. Japan can be really fun. That is why you are here. It is really tempting to spend your initial time in Japan sightseeing, exploring or partying. Do that for a FEW days, like one or two, seriously.

Don't be that guy or gal who goofed around for weeks while their bank account and time on their visa dwindled. Then desperation sets in as you haven't set plans in motion. Disaster soon seems to loom and you might have to give up and head home with your tail between your legs. Don’t do that.

Get a move on! Be about it!

You only have 90 days. You need to get cracking even before you get off the plane. You should have identified the types of jobs and regions you want to…
