Also why just one algorithm? Why not 2/4/6 sections on the homepage with different algorithms and they refresh everytime you go to the homepage or click refresh? And why don't we choose? Have 50 algorithms or even mix an match variables and we can all argue with each other which is the best one instead of bitching at Medium. Users will stumble onto the best algorithms. Crowdsource it. Seems an easy problem to solve so I understand your feeling.
