Hi Frank. I’m sure I’ll share the article with teacher/researchers rather than students but it will inform which movies I experiment with. The Second Language Acquisition community has subgroups that would love this. The people interested in extensive reading and vocabulary acquisition love this kind of analysis.

As for with students, I’m in Japan and even though I teach at good universities most students are A2ish level so movies are hard unless I give a lot of support. Saying that, they constantly request more, more, more movies so they are more motivated to push through difficult language in a movie than they are in other materials.

The extensive reading researchers have just scratched the surface of extensive listening and they recommend to do listening at least one full level (2 is better) below your current level. With the movie visual cues and L2 subtitles I’m not sure how that would work out.

Your movie lists are an awesome tool. Especially for independent learners. I love the movies in your top ten but because of sex and violence I think I could only use 8 and 9 in a school setting.

I’m just reading your TV series episode analysis now.
