I don't think Russia can be a European ally after this war. They burnt that bridge. I think this war is Russia definitively rejecting being a regular European country. We had decades of detente. Russian billionaires living the life in European capitals, huge energy deals including infrastructure, international events like the World Cup in Russia, looking the other way as Putin crushed democracy; all to normalize Russia in Europe. But Putin and the Russian elites could not take the ego hit of being a simple European country with the economy the size of Italy. They had to throw their weight around as if they were still a superpower. I think this conflict has turned into Russia being psychologically pummeled into realizing they are not a superpower anymore. The only problem is they were a superpower so they have nukes. I hope they accept their real status in the world without using nukes.
