I'm not sure how the Scott C Dunns of the world think this "peace" would happen. Ukrainians really really really don't want to be part of Russia or under its thumb. What is going to be offered to make them consider abandoning at least 20% of their country and any hope of justice? Even if the whole of the western world cut off all aid, unlikely, the war and violence wouldn't just end kumbaya, is anyone that naive? Yes the Russians would then slowly ground the Ukrainians down, devastating cities as we can see is their MO, and eventually the conventional war would come to a very bloody end. Then the insurgency would start, and the Russian counter-insurgency, purges and ethnic cleansing, what a glorious "peace" that will be! And as you say what message does that send to all the other world powers that want to attack their weaker neighbors. Green light! If I was one of those small potential target countries I would be immediately entering an arms race including going nuclear as soon as possible. How is that promoting peace?
