As mentioned above, Mearsheimer is in the realist camp in international relations. He believes that the strong dictate foreign policy and that the weak are simply irrelevant. In the words of the ancient Greek historian, Thucydides:

In that case shouldn't it be Russia that provoked NATO and the west in general? Both Europe AND the USA are about 5X as powerful as Russia and together there is no contest. What is Russia going to do if the big dogs actually show their teeth? Mearsheimer is a good example of someone having credentials and fame but having very hollow thinking.
