Roe versus Wade WAS the middle ground wasn't it? Abortion after viability very rare and for medical reasons. Abortion before viability much less restricted. No one was totally happy but it worked. However it seems the "right" couldn't accept the compromise not the "left". The "right" has been pushing for their maximum position with a very well thought out campaign and now they took a huge step in that direction and want even more. Very soon abortion will be banned in most Red states, it already has been effectively banned in many places by closing all the clinics. I think pointing the finger in the correct direction is a start to working on this issue. False equivalency doesn't help. The "right" is the enemy of compromise in this case.
