When one combatant has 200000 invading troops invading their adversary's country for a year and they are mounting a massive daily bombing campaign against civilian targets I don't think it is that strange to be skeptical of that actor's diplomacy. An actual olive branch would be to deescalate and stop offensive actions wouldn't it? If Russia sincerely wants peace negotiations they need to create a little space for them.
