Yes. Does size breed paranoia? Russia does seem to be a paranoid country but aren't others paranoid too? Russia is artificial? Yes it is an empire built over a long period but aren't lots of countries artificial? Does it matter? When was Russia under the control of other powers? Under threat maybe but "under control"?
